Kiwi dance descends on Melbourne

New Zealand dance company Rifleman Productions is to present seasons of two unique performance events – Terrain and You are not alone...you're just in New Zealand - at Melbourne’s Dancehouse in the first week of June.

Terrain is a hit boutique duet show that has toured to arts festivals and venues all over New Zealand, whilst the amusingly titled, You are not alone...you're just in New Zealand, is a compilation show that features four very different, but fascinating works. Collectively, they're described as "a unique sampler pack of New Zealand dance".

Renowned for its innovative approaches to dance, the company aims to introduce Australian audiences to contemporary New Zealand dance, and to foster exchange between Australian and NZ dance artists.

They hope their visit will form the basis for a biannual festival of New Zealand dance in Melbourne, and also encourage Australian dance artists to visit New Zealand.

Rifleman Productions is a New Zealand based production company that aims to create, support and promote professional contemporary dance.

Established in 2006 by independent choreographer Malia Johnston and writer/producer Michele Powles, Rifleman Productions has developed a reputation for producing sensitive and sophisticated new dance work of high quality. The company currently have three works in touring repertoire, Miniatures, Terrain and Dark Tourists. Rifleman also presents works in Australia for the first tiime in 2008.

In addition to contemporary dance productions, Rifleman's directors have also been involved independently in choreography and/or production for companies such as Touch Compass Dance Trust, and high profile events such as the Montana World of Wearable Art Awards and Trash to Fashion. Work is available either by specific commission, or by requesting an existing repetoire piece.
