Composer
Eden has been composing music for dance and theatre since 2000. His recent credits include collaborating with artists Claire O'Neill & Francisco Rodriguez/Fidget Co (Belgium) on the experimental theatre project Lost Property, Malia Johnston with the nationwide tour of Miniatures, Touch Compass Dance Trust short films, Atamira Dance Collective, Curve dance collective. Eden recently engineered for Michael Parmenter's Retrospective Tour, and during 2006 will be composing original work for Parmenter as part of the project arising from his 2005 Creative New Zealand Arts Fellowship.
Eden graduated from UNITEC's dance programme with a National Diploma of Contemporary Dance in 1998, and danced for choreographers Ann Dewey and Sean Curham and as a member of Touch Compass and Black Grace companies. After returning from a dance tour to the UK with Ann Dewey in 2001, Eden decided to concentrate on music composition for dance.
Eden is the guitarist/singer songwriter for Motocade. Their debut 7 track EP was released in December 2005. The band have a video for the single Spectacular Little Death playing on C4, Juice and Alt TV. Recently Motocade performed live on Top of The Pops
Eden works closely with Malia on a regular basis and created the original sound score for Miniatures in 2004, and collaborated with Malia on the music and developed a unique process in making Foley sound for the film small war. Eden also wrote sketches for Malia's recent professional development project workshops and prior to that collaborated closely with her on the project Weather Vain People for which he composed the sound score and acted as an artistic adviser.
As a dancer and a musician , Eden offers unique insights in composing soundscores for dance. There is a strong symbiotic relationship between dance and sound - Eden is interested in discovering new ways to unite the creative process of both disciplines with the aim of increasing the impact a dance performance has on an audience. Eden's ultimate goal is to find ways through sound to increase the clarity of messages communicated by dance performance.
